Apex, the seating arrangement for ICE TEA brand BOS

Exploration into precedent products while commenting on the brand itself.
With a green theme in mind, a board focusing on recycling and upcyling was created with particular focus on reclaimed materials.Incorporating the BOS products themselves would be ideal.
The beginning of drawing exploration with concepts. A wide variety of concepts came about including seating made from pallet wood, recycled bicycle parts and polypropylene rope. Making use of upcycled materials sucha as a bicycle wheel were also drawn however something less subtly upcycled was more sought after.
Concept exploration.
More exploration with more organic direction. A bamboo chair was explored with more development to common pallet wood as well as bicycle spokes. After this development stage the sucessful manufacture of the chairs had to be considered.
An exploded view exploration of the existing Quinze and Milan, pilot Stool series. Particular attention was paid to joinery as well as materials used for manufacture.
A concept of using recycled polypropylene rope was settled on and developed. Different materials and forms were explored however the constant remained the polypropylene rope used as the seat which had the ability to mould to the body. It was important to conisder manufacture early on and devlopment into how the base was going to be constructed was explored.
More concept refinement and development. This drawing was still looking at potential seating, it made use of a typical 4 legged base while being connected via nuts and bolts to the wooden seat.
A final design form was agreed on and a technical exploded view was drawn. Particular attention was paid to materials and dimensions.
The final base and woven polypropylene rope exploration. Different ways of weaving the polypropylene rope was explored, it was important to use a constant flow of polypropylene rope and prevent knotting it along the way as this could compromise the tensile strength this relied on. The base of the stool had developed considerably as the standard 4 legged base has been done hundreds of times before. This ingenuity speaks about the BOS brand, the different form was also considerably more attractive.
Developments were made and slight changes were implied to the base of the chair as well as reducing on the amounts of welds used. This drawing is a representation of the final design form with its more compressed form and focus on bending techniques.
